Have you ever asked yourself how to win at tic tac toe, otherwise known as noughts and crosses? This post will detail all the ways to succeed in the game, and soon you will always either win or draw. If you follow these simple rules, you'll never lose another game of tic tac toe again.
Noughts and crosses is typically a 3-by-3 grid. If you assign each position in your grid a number from one to nine (not in numerical order) you can arrange the numbers so that every horizontal, vertical, and diagonal row adds up to 15
There are more efficient ways, but they really only matter when you extend this game for much, much larger board configurations. For example, if you stored groupings of noughts and crosses in directional objects (store a diagonal configuration, for example), you could sort by those with length winLength-1, and only test the new move against these groupings. You save some iterations, but you have to maintain a lot of extra information in memory.
It's a question of representation. How do you store the game board? Now think outside the box; how else could you store it? You might for example represent the board as a pair of bitmaps - one for noughts and one for crosses - then do a numerical pattern match to detect winning conditions.
Three years before Chapter 1 begins, Jasmine Hadley and her servant Meggie McGregor watch their children Sephy Hadley and Callum McGregor play. Mrs. Hadley and Sephy are Crosses, the descendants of native Africans who hold all the power in their society. Mrs. McGregor and Callum are noughts, the descendants of European slaves who once worked under the African colonizers. Their joy watching their children play soon fades as Meggie fails to serve as an alibi for Mrs. Hadley and is terminated. This break in the friendship between the two women separates their children, who are lifelong best friends.
Sephy starts over at boarding school. She joins a dissident group and begins to work toward her goal of becoming a lawyer. She hopes to work toward equal rights for noughts. Callum is now a sergeant in the Liberation Militia. He has become colder and is known for having no fear. His brother Jude is assigned to his cell as the new lieutenant.
Noughts & Crosses series is set in a world where the people with dark skin (Crosses) are dominant over the white people (noughts), written by Malorie Blackman. The title is a reference to the game Noughts and Crosses (tic-tac-toe).
This is a lesson plan for students preparing for the Cambridge main suite exams. I specifically created it with C1 or C2 students in mind but it could easily be adapted to B2. Students practice word formation while playing a game of noughts and crosses. Download the handout below:
Jude and Morgan were wanted and hiding in a hotel. They were found out by police, but Morgan had a back-up plan. Jude had given Morgan this job. A Cross who supported Nought rights, Dylan Hoyle, got them to pretend they were working as his assistants. A similar plan had been ready everywhere else Morgan and Jude went. They escaped, Morgan thanked Dylan, but Jude still loathed all the crosses. He and Morgan spilt and contacted each other on a mobile home once a month.
Throughout his life Jude created rules for himself to help him survive, he numbered them, with Jude's law number one being the most important. Many of the laws relate to hating crosses, or never caring about people and they are often harsh and cruel. They contribute majorly to who Jude is as a person. Jude's laws are: 781b155fdc
